BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In a week’s time the Water Village has seen two tragic drownings, as yesterday a toddler fell into the river in Kg Saba Darat and drowned, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) confirmed that a distress call was received at around 1.45pm by the Kampong Ayer Police Station. The incident is believed to have occurred between 1 and 1.15pm

The Bulletin was told that the one-year and six-month-old boy fell from the kitchen door at the back of the house and was discovered by a next door neighbour who saw the toddler’s limp body floating in the water.

While no foul play is suspected, the RBPF has advised the residents of Kg Ayer to be more vigilant and consider investing in child-safety equipment to ensure that children are kept from harm’s way.

The incident comes in the wake of another drowning that occurred just a week ago, said the RBPF, which involved a six-year-old girl who fell from a bridge just a stone’s throw away in Kg Bolkiah ‘A’.
