SIBU: The various government projects implemented for the benefit of the people show that the BN government is a caring government.

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the projects that the Barisan Nasional (BN) implemented showed the government’s care for the people.

Addressing the Ibans at a meet-the-people session with the community in Lanang parliamentary seat at the civic centre here yesterday, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the government understood very well the people’s aspirations and needs.

“We are not helping the people because we are scared of anybody, but because we love to serve the people. We understand the people’s aspirations and needs, we want developments in all sectors so that everyone can benefit from them,” he said.

The opposition on the other hand, he said, could not possibly rule the country “because they are never close to the people”.

Taib said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had been doing a good job in running the country and in ensuring that infrastructure development was an on-going process.

On Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Thai King, he said he was all for him (Tiong) to contest again in the coming general election.

He described Tiong as a very humble man who loved serving the people.

“He can always concentrate fully on his business, but because he loves the people so much, he takes great responsibility as the chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and as Lanang MP.”

He also praised Tiong for his constant visit to places under his constituency and listen to their grouses and ideas.

“He always listens to the people first before arriving at a decision,” he said, adding that the government would give Tiong RM1 million to help him in campaigning during the coming polls.

Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Second Minister of Finance and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan were among those who attended the session.
