BESUT: Do not let history repeat itself by closing down the voting district centre (PDM), upon discovering a favourite candidate was not chosen to contest in the general election.
In making this call, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, such an act would cause the party to lose many votes, leading to several seats falling in the hands of the opposition.
“Do not repeat such act anymore in the 13th General Election (PRU13) because it will harm the party and give way for the opposition party to rule the government,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said this when launching the PRU13 machinery for the Besut constituency in Gong Kemuntong here yesterday.
He said, during the last general election, 20 PDM were closed down by Umno members who were dissatisfied with the party leadership’s chosen candidates, thus causing the areas involved
to fall to the opposition.
“Do not be too calculative on who the candidate is, trust the leadership instead, to determine who is fit to compete in an area,” added Ahmad Zahid, who is also defence minister. — Bernama
