KUCHING: Many international students chose to study at Unimas because they are attracted to the diverse culture and attractions the state has to offer.

A student from Germany, Marius Joscha Maiwald, 21, said he fell in love with the state after he conducted a research on Orang Utans here in June last year.

“I spent a week in Kalimantan and a week in Sarawak. I feel like continuing to stay here,” Marius said who is enrolled at the Zoology Faculty.

Another student, Long Ta Qiong from China, 19, believes that the university provides an education of high quality.

“I also love the environment and the people’s lifestyle here which is more relaxing.

“Back in my place, people are always rushing for time and always stressed with work and life. “

Perak born 21-year-old Yugashini Sukumaran said the university was very attractive and there were still many places he wanted to visit.

“I started to fall in love with this university after I came here. This place is really fun and interesting,” said Yugashini who is taking political science, adding she found out about the university through the internet and also friends.

These students were among the 137 new students for the February 2012/13 intake who took part in the oath taking ceremony.

Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid, deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs) Professor Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman, library head Margaret Simeng and Yang Dipertua student representative for Unimas 2012/13 Mohd Zulshafiq Abdul Wahab were among those present.
