KOTA KINABALU: The implementation of Ops Selamat II is expected to see a positive performance as compared to previous years, said director of Internal Security and Public Order Datuk Sri Salleh Mat Rasid.

Salleh said the positive performance was expected as the police had launched numerous campaigns in raising awareness to the public on road safety and other crimes during festive celebrations.

He said the reports of Ops Selamat II, which was launched on Feb 3 to Feb 17, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, would be announced on Feb 20.

“I am very optimistic that the records will be positive as compared to previous years,” he said at the Ops Selamat II Walkabout, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at Jesselton Point here, yesterday.

Also present was State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib.

According to Salleh, Ops Selamat II is different from those of previous years whereby the police have taken an approach through outreach programmes to the community.

He said other government agencies were also involved to assist the police in Ops Selamat II to ensure that the program ran smoothly.

He said each agency had their own role to play to ensure no overlapping in carrying out their duties.

“Our focus is to ensure a decline in road accidents and burglary cases during Ops Selamat II,” he said.
