KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, has called for the people’s support towards the government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Yong said Najib is a strong advocate of the 1Malaysia concept – People First, Performance Now while the BN government is one that was open and devoid of extreme elements.

“Each race is being treated reasonably and fairly. This government and Najib is worth our support,” Yong said in his speech at the Chinese New Year luncheon that he hosted as Tanjung Aru assemblymen for the elderly folks here yesterday.

Yong said the general and state election would be due soon and added that he has yet to know whether he would be selected to contest in the election.

He said, as the government was chosen by the people, “the vote in your hands will decide the fate of our nation. If I am given the chance to contest, I hope that you will continue to support me,” he said.

Some 230 senior citizens from Tanjung Aru, including nuns from Stella Maris and members of Persatuan KOAT enjoyed an afternoon of fun and laughter at the luncheon.

Yong said the event, which has been held for the past six years, was aimed at sharing the festive spirit with the elderly folks and to thank the senior citizens for their support, guidance and encouragement.

He attributed the success of the event to his spouse, Datin Mary Wong, whom Yong said, has led the organizing committee in making it happen.
