SANDAKAN: The Sessions Court here yesterday jailed a man for six years and ordered him to be given one stroke of the cane after finding him guilty of robbery.
Husin Ali, 28, pleaded guilty before judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad to a charge under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides a jail sentence of up to 14 years, and a fine, or whipping, upon conviction.
According to the fact of the case, the victim who is a 16-year-old girl was in the same taxi with the accused from Batu Sapi to Kampung Tinusa around 11.40pm on Jan 24 this year.
While on their way to Kampung Tinusa, the accused asked the victim to lend her mobile phone but the victim declined.
The accused then snatched the mobile phone along with RM20 from the girl.
Police arrested the accused around 11pm on Feb 5 this year at Singapore Road in Sandakan Town.
Husin was also ordered to be placed under police observation for two years after serving the sentence.
