PTBS building on last year’s activities

KUCHING: Organising Chairman of PTBS Tournaments for 2011-2012 Encik Ismail Abdullah disclosed yesterday that the association will continue to build on its work from last year with more tennis tournaments and development programmes for the Bumiputera community this year.

“We are passionate about tennis and Sarawak is definitely going forward in the sport. The sport is gaining more interest thanks to the programmes initiated by my committee,” he said during an exclusive interview with The Borneo Post.

He admitted that organising tournaments is not easy as it involves a big budget. Sponsors needed to be sourced and convinced each time the association plans a tournament.

PTBS, Ismail revealed, has been fortunate in that that there are generous corporate bodies out there willing to help and assist in their projects.

During the interview, he and senoir PTBS member Ruslan Bujang wanted to put on record their appreciation to the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA), MAA KL Mutual Fund, Sarawak Eurasian Society, Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn. Bhd., Danawa Resources Sdn. Bhd., Betakota Sdn. Bhd., Ruing Kuring Restaurant, Keris Damai Sdn. Bhd., Petra Resources Sdn. Bhd., Pembinaan Massrafan Sdn. Bhd., Lumin Engineering, Wasjaya Sdn. Bhd., EPC Synergy Sdn. Bhd., Harwood Timber Sdn. Bhd., Safe Holdings Sdn. Bhd., Kejuruteraan Lasme Sdn. Bhd., I-Ilham, Shorefielsd Sdn. Bhd., Javel Sdn. Bhd., Riverside Majestic and Prudential Insurance for their kind contributions.

They were also very thankful to Petra Jaya MP Datuk Fadillah Yusof, Samariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah and Semop assemblyman Abdullah Saidoll for their tremendous support and contribution in supporting the association’s activities.

Last year, PTBS organised two major tournaments namely the Inter-community Tennis Tournament and the YB Datuk Haji Fadillah Yusof Challenge Trophy. The association had also organised a number of smaller-scaled tournaments. The Inter-community tournament was a huge success as it helped to establish close rapport between PTBS and SLTA and among the different races.

The association is optimistic that 2013 will be another great year in view of the Club’s 35th Anniversary and the state 50th Merdeka Celebration. Ismail and Ruslan also disclosed that a corporate body has pledged RM100, 000.00 to PTBS to match ringgit for ringgit the pledge made by Minister of Housing and Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg in October 2011.
