KUCHING: A Form 2 boy of a local secondary school here lodged a police report yesterday claiming he was assaulted by a group of older schoolmates after failing to pay them protection money.

The 14-year-old boy said the incident happened on Monday afternoon when five Form 4 students, whom he described as notorious troublemakers at his school, demanded RM100 from him.

When he told them he did not have the money on him, they became angry and rained blows on him before warning him to have the money ready before they come calling again.

According to the victim, this was not the first time the group had extorted money from him, and that they usually demanded between RM50 to RM100 each time.

He was also unsure if the group had targeted other students in the school.

Police are investigating.

In an unrelated incident, a foreigner sustained head injuries after he was knocked down by a car in an apparent hit-and-run collision at Kuching Waterfront on Monday night.

The victim, an Indonesian in his 20s, was crossing Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman with two other compatriots when a white Proton car hit him and sped off around 9.30pm.

An ambulance was called to the scene to send the victim, who works as a kitchen helper at a popular seafood centre, to Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
