Eight men fined for driving under influence of alcohol

KOTA KINABALU: The Traffic Court here yesterday fined eight men for separate charges of driving their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

Bonny Fong, 45, and Preveno Peter, 29, were each fined RM1,600, in default, two months’ jail; Raymond Peter, 32, Alexander Jonggiloh, 25, Wong Jun Ming, 20, and Tarron Ah Sien, 28, were each fined RM1,400, in default, two months’ jail while Tan Wei Kent, 26, received a RM1,100 fine, in default, one month’s jail and Adika Robert Runsogit was fined RM1,000, in default, one month’s imprisonment.

The defendants pleaded guilty before magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusoff to each of the charges framed under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a maximum fine of RM6,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months upon conviction.

Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Hanif Mamyudi told the court that all the accused were arrested on separate operations at Jalan Coastal, Jalan Penampang and Jalan Bundusan between January 13 and 21.

In a separate case, Mohd Kam Ree Mohd Kamsol, 20, will stand trial on March 25 and 26 for a charge of stealing a motorcycle worth RM2,900.

The offence was framed under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and also liable to a fine, or both, upon conviction. He was caught allegedly committing the offence at Jalan Taman Tun Fuad at 11.30pm on Jan 22.

The accused was granted RM2,500 bail deposited with two local sureties and also ordered to report himself once every two weeks to the investigating officer. pending disposal of the case.
