KUCHING: A septuagenarian man was killed in a road accident yesterday when his vegetable-laden motorcycle collided with a high-powered motorcycle at Mile 24 Kuching-Serian Road.

The deceased, 71-year-old Chin Jun Siang, was heading back to his house in Tapah Village after harvesting vegetables from his family’s land when his motorcycle and the big bike collided with each other while travelling in the same direction.

An ambulance from Kota Sentosa Clinic was despatched to the scene to send the elderly victim, who sustained serious head injuries, to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The big biker, meanwhile, was not hurt in the accident.

While on the way to SGH with the victim, the ambulance broke down at Mile 12 Kuching-Serian Road, forcing a second ambulance from SGH to be despatched to fetch Chin.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Family members who were present at the hospital disclosed that Chin had sustained similar injuries in a similar accident at roughly the same spot four years ago.

They had advised him to stop riding his bike to harvest vegetables at their land since the first accident as they were concerned about his safety, but he had insisted on continuing to do so.

Chin is survived by seven daughters and two sons.
