SIBU: The opposition’s manifesto under the slogan ‘Demi Rakyat’ is a discreet attempt to mislead, confuse and ‘sugar-coat’ the people with more empty promises prior to the impending 13th general election.
PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah pointed out yesterday that many of their promises pledged prior to the last polls in 2008 had remained unfulfilled.
“The many promises the opposition pledged before the last general election, like free water in Selangor, monetary help to the poor and destitute and affordable housing, have remained empty promises.
“Now, more ‘sugar-coated carrots’ are being dangled to hoodwink the people.
“I hope the people know that opposition can bring nothing good to them,” said Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Youth Development.
“If even at this stage the opposition are willing to lie and confuse the people, I don’t know what is going to happen if they happen to be in power.
“The people must never let themselves be pawned by them.”
He was commenting on a Bernama report where Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have urged the people to reject the opposition’s manifesto or their empty promises concealed in ‘Demi Rakyat’.
Ahmad Zahid added that based on their last general election manifesto, the opposition fulfilled only 15 per cent of the promises made in their manifesto.
Meanwhile, state BN secretary-general and Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications), Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi concurred with Ahmad Zahid that the opposition had failed to honour their pledges, and that the manifesto was “merely campaign propaganda for votes”.
