KUCHING: The 18 finalists of Miss Cheongsam Malaysia 2013 demonstrated their talents during a packed show on Thursday at the Rejang Lobby Lounge, Grand Margherita Hotel.

Performances ranged from traditional Chinese dance, to belly dancing and even ‘Gangnam Style’, singing Chinese songs, and playing musical instruments such as the violin and guzheng.

Up for grabs was the Miss Talent title and RM500.

Contestants Tin Ye Shin, Kho Foong Ling, Leong Hui Yee, Ng Siew Wan, Ten Lek Feng, Pang Xing Rou, Sii Siew Kiet, Lim May Li, Sze Thu Shiao Ping, Chai Siew Ching, Tneh Joo Huei, Yap Yie Huan, Tang Siew Ling, Lau Ching Sze, Ong Ai Ee, Liew Sin Yi, Chang Siew Chien and Sim Wen Wen are all vying for the top prize of RM5,000, first runner-up – RM3,000, second runner-up – RM2,000, third runner-up – RM1,000 and fourth runner-up – RM800.

Other subsidiary titles are Best Cheongsam (RM500), Miss Personality (RM300), Miss Photogenic (RM300) and Miss Friendship (RM300).

Finalists who do not win any title will receive RM200 each.

The grand finale will be held tonight at Riverside Majestic Hotel.

New Miss Cheongsam Malaysia to be crowned

KUCHING: Miss Cheongsam Malaysia 2013 will be crowned tonight during the pageant’s grand finale at Riverside Majestic Hotel Kuching at 7pm.

The 18 finalists are vying for the top prize of RM5,000, first runner-up – RM3,000, second runner-up – RM2,000, third runner-up – RM1,000, and fourth runner-up – RM800.

There are also subsidiary titles – Best Cheongsam (RM500), Miss Talent (RM500), Miss Personality (RM300), Miss Photogenic (RM300), and Miss Friendship (RM300) – while those who do not win any title will receive RM200 each.

The guest of honour will be Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng.

Miss Cheongsam Malaysia has been held annually since 1991 as a community and charitable event to promote Chinese culture.

Attracting contestants from across the country, the pageant also aims to foster friendship amongst the Chinese communities, celebrate Chinese New Year, and provide participants with the opportunity to learn stage presentation, gain self-confidence, and make friends.

A total of RM70,000 has been raised – RM50,000 donated by leading developer and contractor Naim Holdings Bhd to Chung Hua Middle Schools No.1, 3 and 4, as well as RM20,000 donated by Yong to the Hung Nang Siang T’ng Old Folks Home.

Other sponsors are Riverside Majestic Hotel Kuching, Alaric’s Beauty Academy, Lea Centre, Inspiration Alan Salon, Diamond Press, The Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo, See Hua Daily News and Les Paul.

The Miss Cheongsam pageant was founded and organised by Alaric Soh of Alaric’s Productions Company, which was established in 1983.

Soh is the most experienced and reputable beauty pageant organiser in Sarawak, and the only organiser in the world to be assessed and certified for ISO9001:2000 in Quality Management in Beauty Pageants.

He is also the creator and organiser of Miss Tourism Intercontinental, Miss Tourism Pageant and Miss Borneo Beautiful.
