Govt committed to democratising education — Fatimah

KUCHING: The government is committed to democratising education and providing access and equity to eduaction so that everyone can benefit from it.

Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said this when distributing book vouchers in Politeknik Mukah recently.

She said the consistent emphasis on capacity building of human resource to uplift the socio- economic status of the people was not only aimed to eradicate poverty but also increase income so as to transform the country from an average to a high income economy and to achieve a developed country status.

Besides facilities, there are various assistances along the way. Free education is provided in primary and secondary schools besides providing free textbooks, no hostel fee, scholarships and many others, she said.

“The 1Malaysia book voucher worth RM200 last year and RM250 this year has benefited 1.3 million students throughout the country,” said Fatimah. “The government is helping you to achieve your dream by providing higher education loan, book vouchers, smart phone purchase rebate and others.”

She added that the government also ensured that there are job opportunities for graduates with the implementation of mega projects under the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

“Our government has always put the interest of the rakyat first, including the needs of our young people. You are a step closer to the career of your dream. Make the best of your time in Politeknik Mukah,” she said.
