Ministry does not decide the menu

SIBU: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) has dispelled the perception that it decides the menu for the Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia (MR1M).

State director Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman clarified yesterday participants had the flexibility to choose their own menu.

“We neither insist nor force on them the type of menu they should follow in order to take part in MR1M.

“They are free to decide or create their own menu but the breakfast and lunch must be priced at RM2.50 and RM5 respectively,” Wan Uzir told reporters after launching the MR1M at Lina Café and Kafe Tujuh in Kanowit.

He added the ministry merely provided suggestions and advice.

The participation in MR1M, he added, is voluntary.

Meanwhile, operator of Kafe Tujuh, Johan Tambi told reporters that since joining the programme, his business had improved.

“Our customers enjoy the RM5 lunch where I offer a variety of chicken rice, namely pepper chicken rice, Hainan chicken rice and garlic chicken rice.

“They can choose any of the meals plus a drink,” said Tambi, who started the food business some three years ago.

Another participant, Lina Singgah Gindi of Lina Café also gave the thumbs-up to MR1M.

She added that the initiative enabled those in the lower income group to enjoy meals at competitive prices.

“With breakfast priced at RM2 and lunch at RM5, they are great value for money and lessen the burden of those in the lower income bracket,” she said.
