Reject bid for outside intervention – Silam Umno Youth

LAHAD DATU: The government has been urged to reject the proposal by Sulu sultanate heirs for the United States to intervene in resolving the stand-off involving a band of Sulu gunmen in Kampung Tanduo.

Commenting on a statement by one of the Sulu sultanate heirs, Santanina Rasul, in the Philippine media recently, Silam Umno Youth vice chief Hazlan Hamid said the Malaysia Armed Forces were doing a great job in controlling the situation and protecting the people.

The report quoted Santanina as saying that their side was considering seeking the intervention of the US as Malaysia insisted on defending its sovereignty.

“The incident should be settled without intervention from any parties as it might worsen the situation and delay the deportation process.

“We are worried that if there is intervention, the negotiations will be affected,” said Hazlan.

He said the negotiation process was running smoothly and there was no need for intervention from any parties as it might delay the process.

“We are not sure if the intervention from outsiders could settle this matter, we afraid the situation would get worse.

“The approach taken by the government is the best way to solve this matter and avoid bloodshed. This is what we (people) want and we appreciate the commitment of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in avoiding untoward incident that would give a negative impact on our country,” he added.
