KUCHING: Billie Lim May Li was crowned Miss Cheongsam Malaysia 2013 at the finals of the annual pageant at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Saturday night.
Not only did she edge out the other 17 finalists for the prestigious title, Lim – a Hainanese from George Town, Penang – also added the subsidiary title Miss Personality to her win that night. She walked home with a total cash prize of RM5,300.
The other contestant from George Town, Tneh Joo Huei, was the first runner-up and brought home a RM3,000 cash prize.
Cyndi Liew Sin Yi, a Hakka from Serian, was the second runner-up while the third runner-up was Yuvonne Ten Lek Feng from Lahad Datu, Sabah. They walked home with RM2,000 and RM1,000 cash prize respectively.
Jessie Lau Ching Sze, also Miss Talent, was the fourth runner-up. The girl from Kuching won a total cash prize of RM1,300.
A Cantonese contestant from Kuala Lumpur, Jasmine Kho Foong Ling, had the Best Cheongsam and walked home with RM500. Miss Friendship was Charlene Chai Siew Ching from Limbang while Collins Tin Ye Shin from Kuantan was Miss Photogenic. They won RM300 cash prize each.
Other finalists who did not win any award received RM200 each.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng was guest-of-honour at the event.
The annual beauty contest raised RM20,000 for Hung Nang Siang T’ng Old Folks Home and RM50,000 for Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3 and 4.
