PETALING JAYA: The Coroner’s Court here yesterday set two days beginning March 11 for inquest proceedings into the death of six-year-old William Yau Zhen Zhong whose body was found floating near a river jetty in Port Klang last month.
Coroner Mohd Hezri Shaharil set the date after granting the deputy public prosecutor Lee Keng Fatt’s application to have two weeks to prepare for the proceedings.
Lee said 30 witnesses would be called to testify.
Mohd Hezri, however, proposed that key witnesses, such as the investigating officer, William’s parents and medical officers, should be called first.
Earlier, Mohd Hezri told William’s parents Yau Kok Kang, 32, and Goh Ying Ying, 28, that they could appoint a lawyer to represent the family and participate in the inquest.
He also reminded the family that the inquest was not to charge or to put on trial any individuals, but only to investigate the actual cause of William’s death.
William, the couple’s second child, was reported missing on Jan 16 in Jalan Putra Mahkota, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya after leaving the family car to look for his parents at an electrical shop in the area.
