KUCHING: While most people are heading to Europe, US or Australia for tertiary studies, why not take the challenge and be different by studying in China instead.

GIST International College (GIC) Suzhou, China is one of the first international colleges in China and is set to provide a new dimension for students looking to obtain a degree from established universities around the world.

Staffordshire University (SU) has set up its China Centre at GIST International College, Suzhou. It is a dedicated centre for students to have a direct link with SU which will provide a unique mixture of global cultures, an international curriculum and successful long-standing international collaborations.

SU is one of the first UK universities to offer university programmes outside of the UK and also internationally renowned for producing high-calibre graduates in great demand by employers, especially in mainland China, with the skills to build exciting and rewarding careers.

GIC is also the first international institution in China to partner with Alfred State College, one of the top ranked institutions which joined the State University of New York (SUNY) system – the largest university system in the US – in 1948.

Founded in 1908, Alfred State, one of SUNY’s premier colleges of technology, is ranked among the top regional colleges in the North by US News and World Report. It has an average class size of 20 students per class, and a graduate employability rate of 97 per cent.

Under the 3+1 arrangement, students can now study three years in GIC and complete
their final year degree in New York.

Internship is available in China or the US for technology management and computer engineering majors.

GIC is situated in Dushu Lake Higher Education Town which consists of more than 60,000 students from over 30 nationalities in 16 universities within Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP); a joint development project between the governments of Singapore and China.

There are currently over 100 Fortune 500 companies, 3,000 multinational companies and more than 9,000 domestic China giant companies in SIP, which provides internship with employability and networking opportunities for foreign expatriates and graduates who have English proficiency and the China experience.

GIC provides high-quality education that supports the fast growing economic agenda of the region through its colleges, training centres and partner networks. It is strongly supported by industrial partners which include big names like Microsoft, Motorola, Cisco, Apple among many others. Through its industrial partners, students have an opportunity to apply for internship in these companies.

Studying abroad with GIC opens an exciting world of opportunities for students, more so as SIP is surrounded by over 3,000 multinational companies including more than a hundred Fortune 500 companies, giving students more opportunities for internships with an added employability edge.

Networking opportunities exist in abundance as GIC is situated in Dushu Lake Higher Education Town which consists of over 60,000 students from over 30 nationalities in 17 universities.
