KOTA MARUDU: A newborn baby girl was found in bushes behind the Public Works Department (PWD) building here on Sunday.
The infant, with its umbilical cord still intact, was found by a couple who passed by the area around 5.30pm on Feb 24.
District police chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof said police sent a team to the scene to carry out investigation after being informed of the discovery.
Mohd Isa said based on initial police investigation, it is believed that the baby, wrapped in cloths, had just been born before it was abandoned in the area.
He said the baby girl had been taken to the Kota Marudu Hospital and was reported to be healthy.
