FOR SAFETY’S SAKE: The public hope the developer regularly cleans the road of spillover earth and rocks.

KUCHING: The public are calling for the developer of a building project adjoining Boulevard Shopping Mall here to constantly clean up the stretch of road from Taman Seng Goon to Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli which is often muddied by soil-laden lorries from the construction site.

A concerned citizen rang up The Borneo Post yesterday, hoping the local council would conduct checks in the area and take appropriate action.

He said the road was often muddy and dusty due to the earth and rocks that spilled on the road while being transported by lorries.

A resident living nearby said the road condition could pose a threat to motorists and motorcyclists in particular as the rocks would make the road slippery.

The 68-year-old added that traffic was quite heavy at the junction to Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli despite construction activities in the area.

“This kind of condition is a threat to traffic safety. I hope the authorities and developer take measures to ensure that public safety is taken care of.

“Don’t wait until accidents happen,” he said when met near his house.

A quick check yesterday saw workers spraying the road with water to remove soil and rocks that had fallen on it.
