BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Two Filipino nationals are currently being treated in hospital for injuries sustained in what was believed to be a daring robbery in broad daylight in the busy Gadong commercial area, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) confirmed that the incident happened at around 9am yesterday morning at the area between SKH Department Store and The Mall in Gadong.

One of the victims, a male employee of the popular pizza chain, Pizza Hut, was reportedly carrying an undisclosed amount of cash to be deposited in a nearby bank, according to his colleagues.

“He was walking towards The Mall area with another employee when the robber ambushed them,” they said.

The nature of his injuries and that of the other person or the number of people involved in the alleged robbery were not known as the police are still carrying out extensive investigations before considering it as a case of robbery.

The area outside the east side of The Mall was cordoned off with police crime scene tapes yesterday.

Meanwhile, Pizza Hut Brunei franchise owner, Olive Tree Corporation Sdn Bhd, declined to provide details on the case.

In a statement released by its management late yesterday afternoon, it confirmed the incident involving its employees and said they will make no further comments until the full investigation is complete.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure the well being of our injured staff in receiving full medical attention,” it added.

Armed robberies are very rare in the Sultanate, more so in the bustling commercial area of Gadong.

A few years back, a woman was charged after she was found to have faked a robbery inside her car to steal money from her employer.
