After having watched Sarawak President’s Cup team recent match against Penang , Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president, Datu Sudarsono Osman is convinced that the team had to be drilled with the basics of the game.
“This team comprised very young players, the average age being only 19.5 years. Obviously they lack exposure and experience playing at this level,” he wrote to the Borneo Post yesterday.
He added, “We hope to see a good overall improvement in our team as the tournament progresses.”
According to him, the fixture for this year tournament is very hectic where the team has to play two matches in a week.
The travel to play away matches is also taxing. The hectic schedule does not allow the coach the much needed time to work on team.
“We had a discussion with the coach and his coaching staff on what needs to be done. I believe after six matches, the coach must already come up with a plan on what to do next to turn around our team,” Sudarsono wrote.
“We will give the coaching staff sufficient opportunity to work on this team. Well, if the performance doesn’t improve then we will do the necessary interventions”.
Lastly he wrote, “Sure we want to see this young team achieve results, but more important is to ensure that
our young players develop and grow to become good players.”
