Police step up security in Tawau

TAWAU: Police here have stepped up security following the shooting incident at Kampung Simunul in Semporna were two policemen were injured.

A spokesperson for the police, when contacted last night, said the police were still conducting road block at Mile 5, Apas Road here everyday since the intrusion in Lahad Datu.

Meanwhile, many of the shop lots here closed early yesterday after the operators heard the shootout with armed men.

“I have planned to attend a birthday party of my friend at Tawau Recreation Club tonight but my mother called and asked me to come back home immediately,” a 27-year-old resident, identified only as Leong, told The Borneo Post last night.

“My friends’ parents also called them to return home early. We have to cancel our party,” he said.
