KUCHING: Sarawak’s campaign for promotion to the Super League next season is on track as they recorded another Premier League victory over Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

Croatian import Ivan Babic scored the solitary goal of the match in the 67th minute. It was enough for the Crocs to go home with the three points.

The latest result came after their 2-0 home victory in the FA Cup against Penang PBAPP FC last Tuesday.

Despite going up against a ‘lowly’ Kuala Lumpur side, head coach Robert Alberts was proud of the team’s performance.

“Although we won 1-0, it was a good performance from the team. It was a job well done and we managed to extend our unbeaten run,” he said.

Unhappy with the poor pitch condition at the Cheras Stadium last Friday, Alberts added that it was ‘surprising’ that Premier League and Super League matches were played at the venue.

“How could any team play proper football at the Cheras Stadium? The pitch condition there is terrible,” he added.

With last Friday’s win, Sarawak have now gone unbeaten in 11 matches (including the two FA Cup matches against Melaka and Penang) and Alberts wants his team to stay focused. He noted that this has been was one of Sarawak’s best ever winning streak in history. But what is most important, he added, is that the team’s target is achieved at the end of the season.

“The team must focus on the targets that we set for this season. Our recent record should be a good motivation for the team but we must be careful as we still have matches to play until the end of the season,” cautioned Alberts.

Sarawak and Sime Darby FC are the only two teams that remain unbeaten in the Premier League.

Both sharing the same number of points in the league table.

But Sime Darby FC top the Premier League with 22 goals scored while Sarawak is in second place with 16 goals scored so far.
