KANGAR: Perlis will establish a unique educational institution based on the concept of fund raising and resource development via the Wakaf Education Programme.
The institution, Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs), has been placed under the administration of Perlis Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak presented the KUIPS offer certificate to Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullai in a ceremony at Istana Arau here yesterday.
The Raja Perlis then handed it over to Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Putra Faizuddin Jamalullail, the president of MAIPs.
MAIPs in a press release statement said the establishment of KUIPs is the Perlis government’s aspiration to make it as education hub for Islamic teachings.
KUIPs will become an Islamic institution of higher education in Asean region with Muslim students from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Timor Leste. KUIPS will also support projects under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) via the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).
It also aims to enhance the economic development of Perlis via a two-pronged strategy, namely education and tourism (edu-tourism).
Among those present at the ceremony were Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid and the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor. — Bernama
