KANGAR: Malaysians should be grateful and together help to preserve stability in the country so that we do not suffer like the Palestinians in war-torn Gaza, the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said yesterday.

She said Malaysians were fortunate to be staying in a stable country and the people living together in peace and harmony.

“We should be grateful because none of our people died of starvation, easy for us to get treatment at hospitals, equipment, doctors and medicine, there is enough of everything. In Gaza, everything is scarce.

“Many children in Gaza get cancer due to radiation by the Israeli bomb attacks,” she said when relating the experience of her visit to Gaza to members of women’s organisations in Perlis here yesterday.

Rosmah, who accompanied Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on a visit to Gaza last January, was in Perlis to accompany the prime minister who is on a one-day working visit to the state.

She said the Palestinians in Gaza were always under threat, but they persevered.

As such, she hoped Malaysians would pray that the incursion in Lahad Datu, Sabah, could be resolved fast and that there would be no more casualty.

On Najib’s visit to Gaza, Rosmah said it worried her due to the uncertainties in the situation in Palestine.

“I tried to coax him into not going there, but he insisted. There were many others who disagreed with him going there, but as  a wife, I gave in and accompanied him.

“There, I saw the life of the Gaza people, it was saddening, but they were always grateful, despite the poor state of their hospitals, universities and schools due to the bombings,” she added.

Rosmah said the people of Malaysia contributed US$1 million to built a hospital for children in Gaza. She also said that during the visit, she always prayed that God would protect them  from any attacks as the place where they went to in Gaza was only seven kilometres from Tel Aviv.

Although Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh assured them of their safety, a car accompanying Najib’s entourage was hit by an Israeli missile, she added. — Bernama
