Rural youths urged to encourage elders to vote in coming polls

SIBU: Rural youths who are registered voters should play an active role in encouraging their elders who are also registered voters to cast their votes in the coming general election.

Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang said this was because the election was a very important process for all citizens of the country.

“It helps us to firstly, determine our next leaders to helm the country’s administration.

“Then, they in turn, will decide on the future direction and fate of the nation,” he told reporters after returning from his routine weekend visit to his Julau parliamentary constituency, here, yesterday.

On Saturday night, he was the guest-of-honour at a dinner gathering organised by the Youth wing of his Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) at the community hall here.

He said it was the people’s own choice as to who they would want to be their representative, but added that they should think carefully before casting their votes.

Salang also said that youths who aspired to be future politicians and leaders of the country should make their own preparations early.

“You should join a political party and then build up your own image and personality, your resources and networking,” he said.

Salang said the Barisan Nasional government placed great emphasis on producing youths who could be entrusted to take over from the present leaders when the time comes. — Bernama
