LAHAD DATU: Police gunned down six men believed to be involved in the sneak attack incidence against security forces in Kampung Seri Jaya Simunul in Semporna, yesterday.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar in disclosing this last night also confirmed that they have also solved the case.

He said the police strike force team was dispatched to the location at around 3pm and completed the operation in within four hours.

“We recovered the five bodies of policemen and found another one, bringing the death toll of our security forces to six.

“During the operation, we also found six other bodies, believed to be the gunmen,” said Ismail.

Police also rescued 19 policemen, who earlier were unaccountable for, after they went into hiding following the incident.

They were initially rumoured held hostage by the intruders from Sulu, and it was rubbished by Ismail.

He however withheld the identities of the perished policemen, adding thatbit will only be made known after informing their family members.

“On behalf of the police force, I would like to express my condolences to the family members of the perished policemen,” he said.
