Eight detained for suspected robbery and falsifying travel documents

SHAH ALAM: Eight suspects, including five Indonesians, suspected of robbery and falsifying travel documents for foreigners were detained in Banting on Sunday.

Selangor CID Chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah, said the five Indonesians including three women, and two local men were nabbed at a house in Kampung Labuhan Dagang at 12.30am yesterday on suspicion of falsifying travel documents.

The eighth suspect, a local man, was arrested when he surrendered at the Banting police station about 4.40pm on Sunday evening.

“A car radio, more than RM1,000 in cash, five passports, a knife and a shotgun believed to have been used for a robbery were seized,” he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters, here yesterday.

Of the three local suspects, one was unemployed while the other two were a lorry driver and labourer, he said.

The suspects, between 20 and 45, have been remanded until March 8 under the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, he added.

On a separate development, Adnan said the partially burnt body of a 34-year-old Indonesian woman was found in a house at 9th Mile, Kampung Air Hitam, Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, on Sunday.

A plastic bottle with suspected traces of petrol was also found in the house, he said.

The victim’s passport had expired and she was believed to have recently married a 55-year-old Indonesian man who worked as a factory supervisor, he added.

The man was picked up about 5.40pm on Sunday and has been remanded until March 9 to facilitate investigations, said Adnan. — Bernama
