SHAH ALAM: Selangor police seized 9.16 kilogrammes of drugs believed to be heroin, estimated to be worth RM3 million, and detained two suspects in Taman Jati, Rawang last Thursday.

State Narcotics CID Chief, ACP Nordin Kadir, said the suspects aged 24 and 29 were detained at about 1.30pm as they were believed to be beginning their illicit trade in the area.

“Police found a bag containing 20 plastic packets of drugs believed to be heroin in a Toyota Vios car driven by the 29-year-old suspect.

“We believe 300,000 straw tubes can be produced from the heroin seized and sold to addicts for a total of RM3 million approximately,” he said at a media conference, here yesterday.

Nordin said an investigation revealed that both suspects, who are unemployed, were believed to be active in the illicit trade in the Klang Valley since last year.

He said both suspects were being remanded from March 1 to 7 to assist in investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, in Kota Tinggi, the Region 2 Marine Police crippled a subsidised diesel smuggling syndicate after detaining a tanker vessel and nine trailers, and confiscated 300 metric tonnes of the fuel worth RM600,000 during a raid at the Tanjung Belungkor cargo jetty, here on Sunday night.

Region 2 Marine Police deputy commander Supt N Kalai Chelvan said the raid conducted by four officers and eight personnel at 12.30am saw the arrest of 20 men of Indonesian, Myanmar, Singapore and local nationalitites involving a cargo supervisor, nine trailer drivers and 10 crew members.

“The raid was carried out when the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were busy pumping diesel from the trailer into the vessel. The marine police ambushed on land and sea which didn’t allow any suspects to escape,” he told reporters at the location yesterday.

Kalai Chelvan said their checks found about 200 metric tonnes of diesel in the trailer and another 100 metric tonnes in the vessel.

He said they believed the diesel was obtained from around the country before it was transferred into the vessel and sold to merchant vessels docking in Johor waters.

According to Kalai Chelvan, the vessel was owned by a Singaporean and the activities began since last year.

“We believe between 20 and 25 trailers ferried the diesel to the location daily, but further investigation on this will be carried out,” he said.

He said the confiscations and arrests will be handed to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Office for further action. — Bernama
