MIRI: A man was yesterday sentenced by the magistrates’ court here to three months’ jail for abusing dangerous drugs, amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The court also ordered that he undergo observation for two years as required under Section 2 of the Drug Addict Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983.

Annuar Sahar, 27, from Marigold Road in Desa Senadin was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act (ADB) 1952 (Act 234), punishable under Section 15 of the same Act.

He is liable to a RM5,000 fine or two years’ imprisonment, or both upon conviction.

He inserted into his body amphetamine and methamphetamine, which come under the first list of ADB 1952 (Act 234), without the consent of the authority concerned.

The offence was allegedly committed at the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Section, Miri Police Headquarters here at 1.30pm on Nov 2 last year.

The accused who was unrepresented pleaded for leniency and to be allowed to serve the three months’ jail concurrently with another offence he is currently serving.

But Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles ordered that the three months’ jail be served separately as they were different offences.
