KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will decide on April 12 an originating summons filed by 12 state leaders of the Malaysian Malay Chambers of Commerce (DPMM) against three senior office-bearers for a declaration that the DPMM’s annual general meeting held in 2010 was null and void.

The court set the date after lawyers K.Ganesan and Ahmad Nazri Ibrahim, representing the 12 leaders, and Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, representing the national DPMM, submitted to the court their written submissions.

The matter will be decided by judge Datuk Rosnaini Saub.

Six DPMM state presidents, together with their respective honorary-secretaries, filed the originating summons against DPMM president Datuk Syed Ali Mohamed Al-Attas, its secretary-general Hanafee Yusoff and treasurer-general, Norsyahrin Hamid Hamidon.

The plaintiffs are Melaka president Datuk Md Ramly Mohamad and secretary-general Jeffryl Norbi; Negeri Sembilan president Datuk Ahmad Yusof and secretary, Rohaizan Mohd Rashid; Selangor president Tan Sri Rozali Ismail and secretary, Datuk Yusra Sabar; Terengganu president Datuk Ir Tengku Ismail Tengku Jaafar and secretary, Ahmad Izani Ab Ghani; Pahang president Tengku Datuk Zulkifly Tengku Ahmad and secretary, Wan Ahmad Zulaidi Wan Hasan and Perak president Datuk Muhammad Muhiyuddin Abdullah and secretary, Abdul Razak Mohd Ali.

In the originating summons, which was filed last year, they are seeking a declaration that the DPMM annual general meeting on June 26, 2010 was null and void, claiming that the election was rigged, with manipulation done by the secretary-general.

They are also seeking a court order for a new election for the three posts be held within 30 days of the order. — Bernama
