BINTULU: Zone Sebauh emerged the overall champion in the Track and Field Championship of Bintulu School Sports Council (MSS) at Bintulu Stadium here yesterday.

Second and third places went to Zone Tatau and Zone Kidurong respectively.

The meet was hosted by SMK Bandar involving some 1,013 athletes taking part in 260 sports events.

Officiating at the closing and prize giving ceremony was Senator Datuk Pau Chiong Ung who was representing Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Also present was Bintulu Education officer cum organising chairman Tan Kiang Tuang.

Pau who read the text of Tiong’s speech stressed the importance of self-discipline among the students and the young generation.

He said that without high discipline one cannot aim for a higher target because a true champion must have the sportsmanship attitude and fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, Tan said the meet was part of the programmes to develop sports in Bintulu and he therefore urged all parties to work together to achieve more success in the future.

“Through the various events, we’ll be able to scout for new talent in their respective sports disciplines who can represent Bintulu in the coming state level championship to be held in Bintulu from April 23-27 this year,” he said.

A total of 17 contingents took part in the parade competition. In the secondary school category, the first place went to Kadet Polis SMK Tatau.

Second and third places went to Kadet Pertahanan Awam (KAPA A) and Kadet Bomba respectively.

In the primary school category, Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah SK Assyakirin was crowned as the winner followed by Pengakap A SK Tatau and Tunas Pandu Putri SK Kg Baru.
