GEORGE TOWN: Nine religious organisations and three hawkers’ associations in Jelutong received an allocation totalling RM230,000 from Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government on Tuesday night.

Jelutong BN parliamentary constituency coordinator Ng Fook On said the allocation was a fulfillment of the promise made by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when attending the leader-meets-people programme in Jelutong
on Feb 5.

The four religious organisations are Hock Teik Soo Tua Pek Kong God Devotees Organisation, Arulmigu Sri Raja Madurai Veeran Devotees Organisation, Penang Chin Keong Poh House of Worship and Chek Tai Chun Ong God Devotees Organisation.

They each receive RM25,000.

The Jelutong Market Hawkers and Traders Association, Batu Lancang Market Operators and Dealers Association, as well as Jalan Perak Market Traders Association received RM10,000 each.

“Today, we fulfilled this promise. Many of these organisations and associations applied for the allocation through us and we took it to the federal government’s attention for approval.

“I hope this allocation can help the organisations and associations to carry out their activities,” Ng told reporters after handing over the allocation here.

Last month, Muhyiddin, during his visit to Penang, announced an allocation of RM1.03 million for the people in Jelutong constituency, including to repair homes of poor families. people’ houses and to help petty traders and hawkers.

The deputy prime minister said the government had approved the allocation after being informed by Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow about the needs and problems faced by the people in the constituency.

Khalsa Dharmic Jatha Temple secretary Nagindar Singh, when met, expressed his thanks to the BN government for the promise fulfilled and said the money would be used to refurbish the 75-year-old temple.

“We applied for the allocation early this year and we today, we got what we asked for. Clearly BN is the party that keeps its promises and has always put people’s first,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jelutong Umno chief Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said apart from the allocation, the federal government had also approved an allocation of RM200,000 to repair 100 homes of the underprivileged families in the constituency.

He said Jelutong Umno had identified all the houses and that the repair works would begin next week and were expected to be completed in a month.

“The works would involve repairing the roof, floor … basic things. Thank you to the deputy prime minister for listening to the people’s problems,” he added. — Bernama
