SANDAKAN: Sabah Suluk United Association (Sandakan branch) chairman Jamil Ali said there are differences between Suluk community in Sabah and Suluks from the Philippines.

“We are here, we love peace and harmony that we enjoy today,” said Jamil who declined to be labelled as similar to the Suluks of Sulu gunmen in Lahad Datu and Semporna.

Jamil believed that the Suluk community in Sabah are against the action of the Sulu army who caused chaos in Lahad Datu and Semporna.

Commenting on the “Ops Daulat”, Jamil supported the government action to protect the land and he was confident that the security forces would protect local people from untoward incident.

Meanwhile, president of the Cultural, Art and Heritage of Suluk Sabah Association, Hatta Yunus @ Sawabi also supported the action taken by the government through the ‘Ops Daulat’ in Lahad Datu.

“Things that had been done by the Sulu gunmen were unacceptable. I hope they would surrender and return to their own land,” he added.

Both of these Suluk association leaders hoped that the issue could be solved immediately.

They would not deny that they had received negative impression from other local communities and hoped that locals understand and avoid assuming that the Suluk community in Sabah is similar to the Sulu gunmen.
