KUCHING: The wait is finally over and the Young Crocs registered their first President’s Cup win after they defeated Perlis 2 – 0 at State Stadium, Petra Jaya yesterday.

Supersub Eugene Thompson Thomas was the toast of the team after he scored the winning goals in the 52nd and 76th minute.

The maiden win was witnessed by the top brass from Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) led by president, Datu Sudarsono Osman.

State senior squad chief coach, Robert Alberts was also at the grandstand to see how the young chargers would fare this time round.

It was all worth the wait for the anxious spectators even though Perlis’ goalkeeper Kamarul Hilmi Adenan had performed well.

Both teams ended the first half scoreless with the handful of spectators continued to wait patiently for the second half which saw the score line changed in favour of the young homesters.

Kudos to the Young Crocs coach, Mohd Farhan Abdullah who brought in the nippy Eugene in the nick of time and he was quick to cause havoc in the frontline.

The hardworking striker was rewarded with the first goal with a blistering shot within the box which defeated Perlis’ last man.

The visitors’ doom was sealed when Eugene scored the second goal when they were close to getting the equaliser.

The pressure is off for the Young Crocs’ coach who was beaming with a big smile after tasting the first win in eight matches since the tournament kicked off end of January.

Team manager Haidel Heli was equally pleased with the players’ performance and expressed hope they will maintain their hunger for more victories.

“Eugene did very well and he had proven his worth when we need it the most…the boys had done very well this time,” he said while disclosing that the Young Crocs will play Kedah next in the away match to be played at Stadium Darul Aman, Alor Setar next Monday.
