LAHAD DATU: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar yesterday dismissed as just a rumour a report circulating in the social media and via SMS that 700 more Sulu militants would enter Sabah to create havoc.

He said there was no truth to the report that these militants would come to Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.

“The report had asked the police to be cautious and step up security measures. I want to state that the information was not issued by the police and it is not the truth,” he told a news conference, attended also by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, at the Felda Sahabat 16 command base, near here.

Ismail advised the people against easily believing unverified information on the intrusion in Sabah.

“Do not easily believe information not verified by the police or military,” he said.

Ismail reiterated that the security situation in the Sabah east coast was under control and advised the people not to be apprehensive.

So far, 52 militants have been killed in the “Ops Daulat” offensive launched by the security forces against the militants who had holed up in Kampung Tanduo since Feb 12. — Bernama
