KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Timber Industries Association, in a statement yesterday, expressed concerns and called for an end to the violence in Sabah.

Datuk James Hwong You Chuaang, President of STIA, stated that Malaysia is a peace loving country and the people live in harmony despite their cultural, religious and lifestyles differences.

However, the recent incident in Lahad Datu has disrupted the country’s security and claimed the lives of our security personnel.

James reiterated that Malaysians must stand united, particularly in time of crisis, because a nation without unity would give rise to social unrest and economic uncertainties.

“We must trust and have faith in our Government to find an amicable solution to the conflict as soon as possible so that the lives of Sabahans, particularly those in Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak, will return to normal,” he said.

He said the association is thankful and humbled by the unselfish contributions and sacrifices of our police, armed forces in protecting the sovereignty and dignity of our beloved country.

James urged all Malaysian to pray for the safety of our armed forces and security personnel.

He also requested STIA members who are operating in the East coast area of Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau and Sandakan to fully cooperate and have full confidence in the Government, be united and do whatever is necessary to stabilize the situation at the affected areas.

James further appealed to the business and industrial community to come out and support in action by showing our patriotic spirit not only in unity at this critical time but to also stop running away from your hometown as we should have full confidence in Malaysia’s military and police personnel who are risking their lives to protect our country.

“We must fully support the Government’s effort to protect the country. The people must adhere to the safety instruction and guidelines provided by the authorities and not to panic. The industry must lead and help to stabilize the situation at the affected area,” he said
