Don’t spread false news – Shafie

SEMPORNA: It is our responsibility to ensure any news that we spread are true, said Semporna Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

“The youths here must feel responsible in posting any information on the social network as it would affect national security and the peace of our country,” he said in his speech at the meeting of young and new voters at the Semporna community hall yesterday.

He stressed that youths, being the ‘hands and eyes’ of the Government, must be alert and concerned because this is one of their vital roles in this modern era.

“I also want to remind the youths not to be influenced by irresponsible parties through their baseless accusation,” said Shafie, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development.

He urged youths not to believe any slanderous remark by the opposition because it would not only make the situation worst but would also ruin development plans in the area.

On the foreign intrusion in Lahad Datu, Shafie added that the youths must stand together to help security forces such as carrying out inspection in their own hometowns.

“Youths who have martial art skills can help the security forces by monitoring the security situation in their areas,” he said.
