MIRI: The government and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been called on to prioritise building affordable housing in Permyjaya, Tudan and Senadin.

Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin said demand for houses in these areas was expected to surge with the expansion up to Kuala Baram.

He said the population in the areas would also continue to increase due to new commercial and industrial developments.

“Even now, there is a lot of demand for housing particularly for the low and medium low cost houses from the people. They requested from the Ministry of Housing including the Housing Development Corporation to look into the possibility of building more of these houses including rental units and affordable housing,” he said after meeting HDC officers.

With the development of Permyjaya township, he said, more people now prefer to live in the three areas as they are closer to their place of employment in the city or Kuala Baram.

“We anticipate that there will be an increase in population in years to come with the expansion of the township and its activities. Currently, there are lots of people especially those from outside converging and living in these three areas,” he said.
