Six believed linked to intrusion detained

LAHAD DATU: Six individuals, believed to be linked to the intrusion incident in Kampung Sri Jaya, Simunul were detained in two separate raids here yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar disclosed this at a press briefing at Felda Residence Sahabat together with Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.

Ismail said the security forces were conducting operations to weed out the group who were believed to be involved in the intrusion incident in Simunul, Semporna.

“At about 6.30am yesterday, a security forces team raided Kampung Perigi and arrested four men while in another operation at Batu 1.5 of Jalan Semporna-Tawau, another team detained two individuals.

“All of them are now in our custody for further investigation under Section 130(c) of the Penal Code read together with Security Offences (Special Measurement) Act 2012,” he added.

Ismail added that the individuals were arrested as they were believed to have been involved in the incident at Kampung Sri Jaya, Simunul in Semporna where six police personnel were killed.

Earlier, State Commissioner of Police Datuk Hamza Taib said 85 persons suspected to be linked with Sulu armed men have been detained by the security forces here since Ops Daulat on Tuesday. He said the all of them were believed to have been involved with the armed men from Sulu at Kampung Tanduo and Kampung Tanjung Batu.

“They were arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, read together with Section 130 (c) of the Penal Code.

“Another 66 persons were also detained for illegal entry or trespassing into the two restricted operational areas,” said Hamza during the Ops Daulat briefing yesterday.

Meanwhile, Hamza announced that the situation in Lahad Datu town is improving day by day. He advised the public not to listen to any rumours created by irresponsible parties.

He said members of the public receiving such rumours should just ignore them and not spread them further or they can verify such messages at the nearest police station.
