KAPIT:  SMK Song emerged the overall champion in this year’s 35th Kejohanan Balapan Dan Padang MSSD Kapit held from March 5 to 8 at the Padang Sukan here.

The school bagged 79 gold, 34 silver and 35 bronze medals to amass 534 points.

SMK Belaga collected 28 gold, 35 silver and 29 bronze for 455 points to claim second spot.

In third position was SMK Katibas with 316 points from 23 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze.

Hosting school SMK Selirik took fourth spot by taking home  9 gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze  for a tally of  259 points.

SMK Kapit (237 points), SMK Kapit 2 (224 points) and SMK Baleh were in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively. Absent from this year’s
meet was SMK Bakun, Belaga.

In the Inter-District Primary Schools’ meet, MSSD Song scored 311 points from its 27 gold, 26 silver and 11 bronze to become champion.

The Best Boy and Girl Athlete of the meet were Ronny Reynold Rentap and Nurlia Jinda for the Under 15 category.

Joshua Jugah and Majorie Jimbun took the individual honours for the Under 12.

The annual championship served the purpose to select athletes to represent Kapit to the Sarawak Meet scheduled in late April.

The closing ceremony on Fri evening was officiated by the secretary of the Sports Council Kapit  Combined Education Office, Philip Baginda and the principal of SMK Selirik, Ujai Sambau.
