KUCHING: Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMSB) confirmed that a localised fire on a conveyor belt at the CMS Cement plant in Pending here yesterday was swiftly neutralised to ensure that production and supply of cement was not adversely affected.

The incident resulted in the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) being alerted in accordance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) protocols.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Bomba and CMS Cement, said CMSB in a press statement yesterday.

The fire started at about 12.50pm and it was quickly put under control by Bomba and CMS Cement’s own fire-fighting capabilities.

“Due to the quick response, at 3pm, the authorities gave the green light to CMS Cement to resume operations.

“This means that production and the supply of cement to customers will not be affected and business remains as per normal in CMS Cement,” CMSB said.

There was no reports of casualty.
