Former accounts officer jailed for CBT

PETALING JAYA: A former accounts officer was sentenced to two years’ jail and 24 strokes of the whip by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to 41 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT), involving more than RM370,000, six years ago.

Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali handed down the sentence, to be served from yesterday, on Shamsuddin Ismail, 40, after he changed his plea to guilty.

Shamsuddin, who was then an employer of Copyquest Sdn Bhd, was charged with committing the offence by depositing 41 cheques belonging to the company into his personal account and that of his wife and two companies, SYS Pioneer Fashion and SYS Business Solutions, which belonged to them.

The offences were committed at Copyquest Sdn Bhd, Amcorp Trade Centre, Jalan Persiaran Barat, Off Jalan Timur here between 2007 and 2009.

Deputy public prosecutor Zhafran Rahim Hamzah prosecuted, while Shamsuddin was represented by lawyer Datuk Ahmad Rizal Effende.

In another Sessions Court, a despatch rider was sentenced to five years’ jail for committing gang-robbery on a woman last year, to be served from yesterday.

Judge Rozina Ayob handed down the sentence on Hafizi Hizuad Rabu, 27, who was charged with another still at large with robbing one Khaw Mui Hear, 38, of her handbag, purse, personal documents and RM100 at Jalan Gasing near the KWSP building here at 10am on April 4, 2012.

Deputy public prosecutor Syazwani Izyan Mohd Akhir prosecuted, while lawyer Khairul Amin Abdullah represented the accused. — Bernama
