KOTA KINABALU: A local man will be tried in the magistrates’ court here on April 15 for breaking into a shop and stealing items valued at RM6,000.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus fixed the date for the trial of Corven J Sylvester after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He is accused of trespassing into a shop and stealing an Acer laptop, two cheque books issued by Affin Bank and Maybank, and three internal hard-drives from the shop.

The accused allegedly committed the offence about 6.25am on Nov 24, 2009.

He is liable to a jail term which may extend to five years, and also be liable to a fine, and if the offence intended to be committed is theft, the jail term may be extended to 14 years; and for every second or subsequent offence shall in either case be liable to fine or whipping.

The court ordered Corven to be remanded in prison under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code pending the trial.
