SIBU: Sibu Ping Pong Association (SPPA) is sending three boys and four girls to Kuching for the 2013 Sukma selection trials from March 15 to 17.
They are Edward Ling, Jackson Yii, Ting Ung Kai, Crystal Tiong, Michelle Ling Ming, Sia Siu Hung and Sia Siu Ching.
SPPA secretary Desmond Ling conceded it would be an uphill task for the seven to qualify as they would be competing against some of the best players from Kuching and Miri.
“But, this is a chance for them to showcase their skills and to make their presence felt. The players shortlisted from the selection trials will eventually represent Sarawak for the Sukma to be held in Bukit Jalil in June.”
Ling was not sure about the boys whom he said lacked the experience and tactical maturity to beat the players from other divisions.
“However, we are confident that our girls, especially Crystal, should be able to make the cut,” he said.
Crystal, the 13-year-old student of SMK Tung Hua, had been a revelation when she returned with the champion’s title in the Under-18 Sarawak Schools Table Tennis Championship held in Kota Samarahan recently.
