KUCHING: A man sustained injuries to his head after being beaten up by several patrons at a pub during a tussle over a foreign waitress about 1am yesterday.

The man, in his 40s, arrived at the pub in Padungan and asked for a China-born waitress to accompany him while he drank.

To his dismay, he spotted the woman in the company of several other male patrons and immediately approached their table demanding that she sat with him at his table.

Despite the group initially brushing his demand aside, the man continued harassing them until they set upon him by raining blows and smashing beer bottles on him.

The group then left the scene prior to the arrival of police personnel who were alerted of the disturbance.

The victim, who sustained cuts and bruises to his head, was then sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for medical attention.

In an unrelated matter, thieves broke into a store room of a shop at Mile 5, Penrissen Road, and carted away several units of exercise equipment.

The shop owner, a man in his 30s, told police he discovered the break-in when he arrived at his business premises in Hakka Avenue Tuesday morning and saw signs of forced entry at the store room.

A subsequent check of the room revealed the theft of the equipment, although the owner had yet to determine the exact number of units stolen.

Police are investigating.
