KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has criticized the foreign media for continuing to question the professionalism of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and the security forces on the intrusion of an armed group from Sulu in Lahad Datu.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Henrynus Amin, said PBS is saddened by claims made by some foreign media that the Malaysian security forces were ruthless against the Sulu armed group that intruded into Lahad Datu.

“PBS is confident with the integrity and professionalism of the security forces in carrying out their duties in dealing with the armed group in accordance with international laws and laws in our country.

“We fully reject all accusations made by the foreign media who claimed that our security forces were brutal and ruthless in handling the incident in Lahad Datu as not true and baseless,” he said during a courtesy visit and donation for the welfare of the security forces killed and injured in Lahad Datu and Semporna at the State police headquarters in Kepayan here yesterday.

Present at the ceremony were State Deputy Commissioner of Police SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang, PBS exco youth Datuk Jahid Jahim and PBS vice-president Datuk Herbert Timbun Lagadan.

The donation amounting to RM20,000 was a collection made by the party during its anniversary celebration held here at the state capital recently.

Henrynus also thanked and sympathized with the sacrifices made by the security forces who are still battling with the armed intruders in Lahad Datu since Feb 12.

“On behalf of PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, party leaders and members, we like to convey our condolences and sympathies to the family members of the security forces who lost their lives in defending our country,” he said.
