KUCHING: SUPP Central Youth chairman Tan Kai, the party’s endorsed candidate for Bandar Kuching this election, participated in a door-to-door visit to 50 households in Kenyalang Park recently.

Kapitan Tan Tuan Yee and several party youth leaders accompanied Tan Kai during the about two-hour programme in the party’s bid to wrest the seat from  the opposition.

“The programme was also part of Tan Kai’s tireless effort to serve the people in the constituency more efficiently. He works hard to understand the needs and problems of the local people,” said a press statement issued by SUPP Central Youth committee yesterday.

During the visit to one of the households, Tan Kai offered to help a senior citizen – who has been unable to walk for years – to follow up on his application for a wheelchair from the Welfare Department.

“The senior citizen was so happy for the visit that his children who are working in a neighboring country are determined to come back and vote for Tan Kai this coming election,” the statement added.

On Sunday, Tan Kai and chairperson of Women and Family Development Council for the Kuching parliamentary constituency, Hairiah Idris, visited over 40 families in Kpg Sri Maimunah and Kpg Sungai Apong.

During the visits, it was reported that Tan Kai and his team offered assistance to do follow up on some of the residents’ application for aid from the Welfare Department.

Tan Kai said: “I am here so serve the people and to know them better. Understanding their needs is always a good start. Even though I have been doing this for quite a while, new problems do arise from time-to-time.

“That is why keeping in regular touch with the people is crucial. People cannot rely on part-time YBs to solve their problems,” Tan Kai said of his two-day ‘meet the people’ programme.
